Michael Arcega Futilitarianism

17.06.2008 - 19.07.2008
Nu'uanu Gallery at Marks Garage presents "Futilitarianism," Michael Arcega's first solo exhibition in Honolulu. An extension of Arcega's work about asymmetric power dynamics conflated with humorous textual metaphors, Futilitarianism inhabits a position of neutrality and ambivalence. The projects in this exhibition embody a sense of utility and purpose, but the process makes them futile. By using familiar signifiers, these projects are designed to take advantage of viewers' expectations. By understanding these social agreements and codes, the artist is able to manipulate their outlook. Arcega is an interdisciplinary artist based in San Francisco.
